BLAUPUNKT POP 70 REMAKE

A modern reinterpretation of the iconic Blaupunkt Pop 70 radio as a modern music player. This project involved rapid prototyping techniques including 3D printing and laser cutting to build a fully working prototype . It strengthened my confidence in digital fabrication and deepened my understanding of physical interaction design and hardware prototyping.

OUTCOME

The final prototype is a fully working prototyp combining classic aesthetics with modern user interactions. The transparent allwo users to see the custom designed inner mechanism, connecting them to the technology behind their listening experience. Users control playback, adjust volume, skip tracks, and navigate songs with a needle that moves in sync with a rotary dial.

PROCESS

The main challenge was fitting multiple complex mechanisms into a compact space without interference. We began with sketches and cardboard models to plan structure and interaction, then used Fusion 360 for precise component fitting. Iterative testing and material tweaks ensured smooth movement, reliable button feedback, and an overall seamless user experience.

Learning

Balancing digital design with real-world constraints

Understanding how to translate a digital design into a working physical object required navigating real-world constraints, precise planning, and careful assembly

Prototyping fast and iterating fast

Low-fi mockups helped clarify interactions early, while continuous testing and iteration allow to troubleshoot mechanical challenges and quickly adapt designs as needed

Designing beyond aesthetics

Beyond aesthetics, focusing on how the product felt to use, every click, turn, and movement was carefully refined to ensure a satisfying and intuitive experience
